Alaska is to the west of Canada.

    Hi,

    Is this sentence correct:
    "Alaska is to the west of Canada."
    I'm not sure if I should use "to" here.

    Yes that's one way of saying it. Some folks leave out the 'to' altogether.

    I think "to the" is meant if you're leaving something out: Alaska is west of Canada. But your original sentence is just fine and regularly heard.
