Ciao a tutti,
come posso tradurre la seguente frase in inglese? "Almeno puoi mandare messaggi con whatsapp?"
Ho provato a tradurre la frase con "Could you at least send messages using whatsapp?"
Il contesto è una persona che chiede ad un suo amico se almeno può mandare messaggi con whatsapp dal momento che ha terminato i giga e non può più navigare in internet.

Grazie

    Ciao,

La prima parte va bene. Forse "could" andrebbe sostituito con "can". Al posto di "using" ci metterei "through" :)

Ora che TheCrociato91 mi ha dato il la: "Can you at least text on/through WhatsApp?" può essere un'opzione valida. "To text" vuol dire "comporre messaggi", quindi così otterresti un'opzione più concisa.

"Can you at least..." to me sounds like you're exasperated or disappointed with this person, like it's the least they could do. I think less judgmental sounding would be something like
Are you still able to text with whatsapp (at least)?
If nothing else can you still text with whatsapp?

Agreed, and the original suggestion was "Could you at least send messages....", which sounds even more exasperated than "can you at least....". However, "could" would be okay if you were talking about a situation in the past:

A: I ran out of data yesterday.
B: That sucks. Could you at least send messages with whatsapp?

But if it's about the present, then another possibility would be Are you at least able to send messages with whatsapp?

"To text" vuol dire "comporre messaggi"
To send text messages, according to oxforddictionaries.com, yes, but I personally would only use it for SMS (aka "text") messages, which seems to me to be the established context. For WhatsApp I think I would probably stick to the term ‘messages’. WhatsApp is being used as a verb by now, isn't it? I don't really approve, but that would probably work.
