an easy out

    Hi all,

I wonder what this phrase means.

Fans were critical and even Spidey creator Stan Lee once branded the CBS series "juvenile", but for fans in the '70s, it was still plenty exciting to see our favourite comic hero brought to physical life and The Amazing Spider-Man did at least make a fair attempt at depicting Parker's fantastic wall-crawling abilities, in an age before CGI provided an easy out.

    Many thanks in advance.

CGI (Computer-Generated Imaging/Images/Imagery) provided an easy escape (out) for people who had to create impossible scenes for movies and television. It was much more difficult to show impossible things, such as Spider-Man's ability to crawl up vertical walls, in the time before CGI.
