an extra angel in heaven

One more angel on earth is better than an extra angel in heaven.

Hi,
I bumped into the above saying on the website I frequent. Is "an extra angel" in the context proper when it's meant to refer to "one more angel?"
Thanks.

I think that it is saying just a bit more than "one more angel" -- it is implying that there are already enough angels in heaven, and that one more angel on earth would make a difference, whereas, one more (an extra) angel in heaven would make little or no difference.

The writer is avoiding saying "one more angel" twice. His or her solution is a pretty good one, in my opinion.

Thanks, AlabamaBoy, for pointing out the crucial point for me!

    Got it!
