an industry shake-out

Bonjour,

I am trying to translate accurately "industry shake out" (referring to the console game industry). Not sure if "shake out" refers ta CRISIS or a CHANGE

In fact, an industry shake-out had begun. In early September, suppliers refused to extend credit, and dealers were complaining about a lack of service support.

My attempt:

[...] l’industrie du jeu vidéo était en pleine mutation. [..]

Merci / Thank youfor your comments :)

    Merci Michelvar.

So shake out is consolidation? No other possible translation?
With more context, I am not 100% sure...

The second and third quarters of 2011 were periods of mounting competitive pressures and financial losses throughout the personal game console industry. In fact, an industry shake-out had begun.

    What do you think?

    Merci.

It's certainly on the right track. I think it's based on the metaphor of a sieve - les sociétés sont passées au crible, et les moins fortes sont rachetées ou ferment les portes.

Absolutely. Rise of competitive pressure >>> weaker company lose money >>> companies in good shape take control of weak companies >>> winners get all.

That's the process of an industry/market shake-out, and it's called "consolidation du secteur / du marché".
