# an X is recorded in the little box

Hi

I have another question about bowling!
Here it says:
A flash flood begins with a drop of rain on stone. A forest fire tells with just a whiff of distant smoke. A perfect game of bowling is a possibility only when an X is recorded in the little box in the corner of frame number 1, the first of twelve in a row.

Would you please explain this part?

Thanks

It is describing how a bowling score card is used.

If all 10 pins are knocked on the first ball, an X is marked in a box on the score sheet. This is called a strike. The score for a strike is not recorded immediately as the next two balls are part of the score.
How To Keep Score For A Game Of Bowling

In frame one, the bowler got 10 pins on his first ball so an X is marked in the small box in the big box for frame 1.
In frame two, the bowler got 7 pins on his first ball (the small 7 at the top) and three pins on the second ball (the / in the little box) This is a spare.
Now we record a score of 10 + 7 + 3 = 20 in the big box for frame one.

A perfect game (300 points) is all strikes so you must start with a strike in frame one and then get 11 more strikes - an X in all 12 little boxes.

Thanks a million, Myridon. It was very helpful, and very clear.
