I'm having a hard time with the grammar of the following sentence in spanish.

Context: Celtic mythology

Sentence: According to another myth, Merlin advised King Uther “to paint a dragon on a flag and bear it always before him to bring good fortune”.

Mi intento:
Según otro mito, Merlin aconsejó al rey Uther “a que pintara un dragón en una bandera y siempre la llevara ante si para traer suerte”.

How's that?
