Does "and I was taking an discrimination against African American kids in schools" mean "and I was discriminating/belittling African American kids in schools"?

Thanks in advance

Your sentence is not grammatically correct so this is probably not what the video says - are you transcribing from listening to it?

Who was saying this? It should be 'a discrimination', not 'an discrimination', but even after correcting this, 'taking a discrimination' doesn't make much sense.

    Cross-posted.

Sorry that is "taking on." So it is crystal clear that the speaker was challenging discrimination against African American kids in schools.

Thank you for pointing out the mistakes.
