Hello people, i want to know the meaning of this phrase from this poem from Samuel Taylor Coleridge

He saw a cottage with a double coach-house,
A cottage of gentility!
And the Devil did grin, for his darling sin
Is pride that apes humility.

thank you people >D

Paraphrased, it's roughly "And the Devil grinned, because his favorite sin is pride that tries to disguise itself as humility."

"Apes" really means "imitates in behavior".
