apology or apologies?

I don't really think it's a big mystery. Several words have singular and plural uses.

Example. a) The Minister gave a statement at the press conference. It contained several lies.

    b) The minister made several statements at the press conference; a few of them were lies.

When people apologize, sometimes they say, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry for your loss." So someone might say, "She was making apologies."

Another observer might say, "All that repetition made her apology seem insincere."
