I'm finding difficulty with the following sentence:

Le pays abrite environ 6% de la biodiversité de la planète, et a appris à en tirer profit ces dernières décennies.

Does it means that the country learnt to make a profit or was taught to make a profit. Also, does the en in a appris à en tirer profit refer to la biodiversité?

    Thanks four your help!

    La Haye Pays-Bas
has learned to take advantage of it in the past decades

    Southern England
    English - Southern England
