Hello,

Is there any difference between the words in French "appui" and "assise" in the context of crane (parts of crane, or "grue" in French).

How do we say "appui" and "assise" in English in this contexte? Is there only one word for "appui" et "assise" (I suppose it's the base of the crane, isn't it?).

thanks in advance.

    Hello maayani,

Could you give us a little more information about your "appui de grue"/"assise de grue" and how it's being used in the phrase?

It could be baseplate/base plate (for a truck crane, for example) or mounting base (for a larger crane), but actual translation really depends on context.

    Here:

L’analyse des renversements dus au vent a mis en évidence que les facteurs suivants avaient pu jouer un rôle important
    ■ rafales de vent,
    ■ effets de site et d’avancement de chantier
    ■ qualité de l’assise

" Les équipements de travail démontables ou mobiles servant de levage de charges doivent être utilisés de manière à garantir la stabilité de l’équipement de travail durant son emploi dans toutes les conditions prévisibles, compte tenu de la nature des appuis.

I just don't know the difference between "assise" and "appuis".
    (it's taken from here: http://www.ameli.fr/employeurs/prevention/recherche-de-recommandations/pdf/R406.pdf).

    Thanks in advance.

I believe both refer to foundation. "Assise" may refer to the foundation in general (in this case, the quality of the foundation) while "appuis" refers to any type of foundation (i.e. foundation structures).

But I'm no expert. I recommend that you google crane+stability+wind+foundation to gain a better understanding of the subject.
