après une fugue collective

How would you translate into English: après une fugue collective, in the context below. They are interrogating a mayor about vote-rigging:

Alors M. le Maire, les grabataires de la maison de retraite, ont tous après une fugue collective, décidé de voter le même jour à la même heure, d’une seule et même voix…

So, Mayor, those-bedridden souls at the retirement home all decided following a runaway decision, to vote on the same day at the same time for the same candidate?

decided to run away/escape together, to vote ...

Since they are bed-ridden, and, I am assuming given the rest of the sentence, weren't taken to the polling station by the retirement home staff, their going to vote would have to be an escape.
