Are 'for an instant' and 'for a while' interchangeable?

Are 'for an instant' and 'for a while' interchangeable in the sentence below? I know those two expressions are used for indicating short period of time, but I'm not sure whether those can be interchangeable.
"For an instant/for a while, Catherine was tempted to flee."

    I would say that both are technically okay, but for the second case, I'd add a "short": For a short while, Catherine was tempted to flee.
