Hello,

I've met this phrase in a novel.

'Boys wanted to talk about types of aeroplanes and ship; about Army bets and Navy quarrels. (The Night Watch by Sarah Waters)'

It's background is the second World War,
and I guess the author wants to say that boys love all those things about war.
But I'm not sure What that "Army bets and Navy quarrels" means exactly.

Thank you very much in advance.

I don't think there is any idiom that uses "Army bets and Navy quarrels", Araleeyo. I'll bet this is just Waters' way of saying that they wanted to talk about military things.
