Newspapers help people know what is happening or changing around the world/in the world .

Which one?

Maybe around suggests an idea of movement?

You can use either - and in this context, around doesn't carry any idea of movement.
It suggests to me a very deliberate "international news" flavour.
What's going on "in the world" might be a lot more limited.
