Cúal es la diferencia entre "arte plástica" y "bella arte"? En inglés, decimos "fine arts" y "high art," dos términos que son un poco distintos. Es lo mismo en español con "arte plástica" y "bella arte"??
Yes, but my question is more if they refer to anything different or carry a different connotation. Also, I don't think English-speakers ever really use the term "plastic arts" and in another thread, someone translated it as "fine arts." But I've always thought "fine arts" was "bellas artes," so then what's the difference?
Que yo sepa, "bellas artes" equivale a "fine arts" que incluye pintura, escultura, literatura, teatro, música, todas las artes finas. Pero "artes plásticas" creo es lo que normalmente llamamos en inglés "visual arts".
I agree with you that "plastic arts" is rarely used in everyday English, but I think when it is used it means more or less the same as "visual arts", i.e. painting, sculpture, etc. as opposed to theater, literature, dance, music, etc. I also think that "visual arts" may include some art that is not considered "fine", such as movie posters, quilts, etc.
(Maybe the use of "plastic arts" is a recent borrowing from French or Spanish, who knows?)
