I watched a film yesterday “The Legend of Santuary", a cartoon movie. Then I talked about this with my friend, he told me he watched it in 2014, he said like this:

This film was published as early as 2014.

He wanted to say that this film was published two years ago. (When I was talking to him, I sounded like I was watching a new film.) And obviously, I was late.

I wonder if the bold is natural.

Thanks a lot

Films are not "published"; that word applies to printed matter. Films are released.

That film was released in 2014.

We wouldn't say "as early as"; that was only two years ago.
