Hello, I need your help guys. Which one is correct to say?
  1. As far as I am informed or...
  2. As far as I was informed

    Which one is correct:
    1. As far as I was informed, many Panther tanks used in Eastern Front were equipped with a zimmerit.
    2. As far as I am informed many Panther tanks used in Eastern Front were equipped with a zimmerit.

    Neither version sounds right to me. I've never come across 'As far as I am/was informed'.

    The natural way to say what I think you mean would be 'As far as I know . . . ', or 'As far as I'm aware . . . '

    A further thought:

    If you were actually informed, that is to say somebody told you, that these tanks were equipped with a zimmerit, then you could say 'I was informed that . . . '

    But this may not be what you had in mind?
