a. He saved his sister as he did his brother.
b. He saved his sister, as he did his brother.

The sentences are mine.

Does the comma change the meanings?

I see two possible meanings.

1. He saved his sister in the same fashion he saved his brother.
2. He saved his sister and he also saved his brother.

My feeling is that in both cases we have some ambiguity, but (2) seems the more plausible reading.

Many thanks.
