Hi,

If he keep being late for work for three days in the past, what would you say?

I wrote:
1)As he has been late for work for three successive days , finally he was fired.

But the answer in the book chooses the simple past tense:

2)As he was later for work for three successive days, finally he was fired.

So, is it the way that you would say? What is wrong with my writing?

Thanks in advance!

Windy:)
