    Hola. ¿Cómo se traduce "as I did with a start" en el texto siguiente?: ... and when I awoke, as I did with a start, the sun was shining in the east window, having a mind, as it seemed, to make the most of that day.

    Literally, it means como lo hice con un susto. You can phrase that more naturally.

    Así lo veo yo: ...y cuando me desperté, cosa que hice con un susto, el sol brillaba en la ventana del este, opinando que, o eso parecía, había que aprovechar el día (sacar provecho al día, sacar el máximo partido al día).

    Edito: no había visto el mensaje de gengo (uno necesita su tiempo para intentar traducirla).

    Indeed, this high register term is the uncommon meaning of a start: dar un susto a algn / to give someone a start :eek:

    " Paco gave me a start when he burst into the house without knocking first. "
