I have been taught this phrase a thousand times... by Teacher... :rolleyes:
and I cannot fully understand its usage.

Can anyone please explain it and give me some meaningful examples??

    I have heard of "as it was" such as in the following:

    As it was, she already spent all her money on present bills--how was she going to pay for this new expense?

    I'm trying to think of a good example... I never use it, and it is often used incorrectly.
