Hello,

Please let me clarify how to use "as of".

1. As of July of the year, he is going to retire.

2. As of July this year, he is going to retire.

What I want to say is that he is going to retire in this coming July.

Which way is more appropriate, 1 or 2?

    I'm afraid, neither.
You can say "He is going to retire this July".

Note: "As of" is used with a time expression to express a situation at the time mentioned. So "as of July 10" means as the situation on July 10 is.
