Hi

A schoolboy told his teacher that he saw how his friend was abused by his granny. He told the teacher the whole story.

Then the teacher thought to herself:

There was something entirely convincing about the boy’s
account, strange and horrible as the central incident
sounded. (The Witches/Peter Curtis)

I have some problems with understanding the sentence above. I know its saying that his account was convincing however I have some problems with the second part:strange and horrible as the central incident
sounded.

Maybe it says that his convincing account was both strange and horrible as the main part of it (the grandma abusing his friend).

Even though a grandmother abusing her grandson (the central incident) is strange and horrible, the boy's account was convincing to the teacher.
