Les immigrants peuvent être et un atout et ??

Les immigrants peuvent être à la fois un atout / un avantage et un risque / un danger ?

    danger is too strong.
I think that it is more

    responsabilité/charge/fardeau

where fardeau is still too strong !
So "charge" is maybe the good translation

I see your point, marcolo, but in that instance I understand liability as including an element of risk, not only a notion of burden, meaning that immigrants can also be a risk for host countries. "Danger" is too strong, you are right, but "risque" would cover it.
How does johnp understand the original sentence ?

The original sentence was liability in an economic sense, so I think responsabilité and risque fit. Merci beaucoup!

I would use responsabilité in this context. When one is responsible for another person you also assume the risk of being liable for their behavior. :)

And in the domain of banking, what is the traduction of "asset liability management" ?
