attract closer

My text is a translation that someone else did from Italian and that I'm supposed to correct for fluency. However, I've sunk into semi-lingual mode and can't speak anything fluently. Here is the sentence:

Some [springs that flow into the lake at this point] are hot water springs, and as a result fish are particularly abundant along this stretch of shore, especially at night, when the temperature falls and the warm currents attract fish closer to land.

Can we say that? "attracts... closer" sounds odd to me, but I can't think how to fix it.

Thank you, and may all your currents be attractive.
