Au passage de

ca veut dire quoi 'au passage de' en anglais?

La continuité de l’interpolation est garantie, mais une discontinuité apparaît dans le champ des dérivées, car un changement brusque des voisins naturels visibles intervient au passage de l’interface.

:)

oups ! I even don't understand what the french sentence means !
anyway, "au passage de" could mean : "when the interface appears"
    but wait for confirmation :)

    Bonjour, j'ai une question au sujet de cette phrase (c'est de la poèsie);
la phrase qui me torture, c'est "au passage de":

    Le second accordéon tremblait
comme une maison au passage de sa soeur

    Est-ce qu'on peut traduire:

    The second accordion trembled
like a house at its sister's passing through

like a house at the passage of its sister
like a house at the footsteps of its sister

    Merci à l'avance! Marilyn

I think the sister is related to the accordion player, rather than the house. Having said that, I've never heard the expression "trembler comme une maison", so I'm also a little perplexed.

The second accordion trembled like a (leaf?) at his sister's footsteps

Rereading your response more carefully, yes, I like your translation very much!

I have credited WordReference.com in the acknowledgements to my translation of Benjamin Péret's Le grand jeu (The Big Game).

It will be out in April of 2011 from Black Widow Press, and the translation has benefited greatly from this forum. (I could not have done it without you all!)

Merci au fond du coeur! Marilyn

    Hi,

I'm trying to translate this expression but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any english word to translate the french "passage"...

The sentence I have to translate is

"Au passage d'une bosse, l'autoroute se transforme alors brusquement en une route départementale"

    I have translated

"After walking past a bump, the highway suddenly turns into a departmental road"

    Waiting for your suggestions...
