Hello,

My friend had to send an email concerning an audition for musicians using the phrase
"Er zijn nog een pak "dutch word for auditionees here" waaronder klassieke pianisten.

We've tried to look up the words auditioner and auditionee in different translation dictionaries but couldn't find a fullfilling answer, only the meagre "kandidaten" turns up.

Anybody has a good proposition?

Thanks for quenching our thirst :)

  • Although bibibiben's suggestions are all very valid words, I think it's unlikely you will find them.

It all depends on the context (which we are missing completely).

If it has already been made clear that you are talking about auditions, the most likely word you will see is "kandidaten" without any further qualification.

The only context in which I could see any of bibibiben's suggestions is in a context where the term "auditionee" is explicitly opposed to "auditioner" or some other participant in the process. In any other context, just "kandidaten".

(Two of my children are professional classical musicians and I can assure you that auditions are a very common part of their lifes (and therefor, also of mine).)

There are enough hits on Google for all of them, in a relevant context. I also came across auditanten, a word I wouldn't use myself, but seems to be commonly used in certain circles.
