Good afternoon, guys. I work on a text about neurosciences, on a part about social sensitivity, involving two brain areas: the hippocampus and the amygdala. It says: "The anterior zone of the hippocampus backs up against the amygdala and plays a key role in keeping what we do appropiate to the context." My try: "A zona anterior do hipocampo recua diante da amígdala e tem um papel-chave em manter o que fazemos adequado ao contexto." I think this is wrong, though. I don't get the meaning of "back up against", because "backing up" means "to support", and how can you support something if you act against it?? :/ Besides that, I think the sense of the phrase is wrong, because I guess both brain areas work together in that case. (Not sure, though.) Please help me, anyone!
