bald spot

I am translating instructions for an algae filter for an aquarium.
The sentence is, "If the middle of the screen starts showing a bald spot, then decrease the exposure to light." The bald spot is referring to a hole in the algae growth. How would I say "bald spot" in this context?

Thank you!

"une calvitie" wouldn't work in french, but maybe "une zone plus claire" would.
I also thought about "une zone clairsemée".

Thank you for your replies. I ended up just saying "une tache chauve," but I also like "une zone plus claire."
