Ballot initiative

From TV series<Casual>,

This guy is talking to his employers.
Shifts are eight hours, and you'll be given one or two different ballot initiatives.

I think I know what "ballot initiative" is, but I don't understand why would these people receive one or two, what's that mean?
Thank you.

I think we need more information. What sort of person is he and who are his employers? Did you mean to write 'employers'? Given what he is saying, I would expect it to be 'employees.'

Are they by any chance being hired to collect signatures for petitions to put something on the ballot?
