Hello. I'm having big problems translating a sentence. The author refers to Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. From what I understand, it's something to do with banks and bakers, but I know nothing more (I looked it up on google but I couldn't understand exactly what happened).

The sentence is:

"This has never been illustrated better thasn by Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae, barmy bankers, tricky traders, private equity prats, hedge fund fools and derivative dolts, along with pathetic politicians that led us to the economic crisis..."

I've got 3 problems: the first is I don't know the context, what really happened, the second is I'm not familiar with financial terms (private equity, hedge fund, derivative) , the third is the author is trying to impress his readers creating 2-words expression satrting with the same letter, which makes it even stranger and which is impossible to reproduce in translation. I'm not that worried about the same letter thing, it would be enough to understand and find a way to tranlsate it in Italian.

My horrible attempt is:

"...bancari strampalati, commercianti disonesti, idioti del capitale di rischio, sciocchi dei fondi d’investimento, e scemi derivativi, insieme a politici patetici che ci hanno condotto alla crisi economica"

Private equity fa riferimento a fondi di un limitato numero di investitori gestiti in modo privato principalmente per investire in aziende private industriali di piccole-medie dimensioni che possono essere sviluppate e poi quotate in borsa, realizzando dei guadagni.

Hedge funds sono fondi di investimento attivi che gestiscono fondi anche di molti investitori spaziando sui vari mercati finanziari per avere una varietà di investimenti e realizzando utili maggiori di altri tipi di investimento a tasso fisso ad es.

Derivatives sono titoli che riuniscono in un singolo strumento un "pacchetto" di altri investimenti che danno ritorni differenziati, compensando discreto rischio e minor rischio.
