It's from a piece of theatre, and it's a techer who was nearly a breakdown:
"It only lasted one morning. I was in that big barn of a theatre - first year, five hundred students. There I was..."
    How can I translate that?

    San Francisco
    American English
"A big barn of a xxx" means that xxx is cavernous, huge. It may, depending on the context, also imply that the theater was rustic or shabby.
