    silviap,
I think you could use either?

    barres en acier=steel bars

    or

    barres métalliques=metallic bars

If they are made of wood or plastic and thin, then they may be 'des baguettes'. Actually you could say 'des baguettes de métal' ou 'des baguettes en métal', ou 'des baguettes métalliques'.

    Barre suggests bigger items

In french: "tiges métallique" but if you can specify kind of metal like "tiges d'acier" or "tiges d'aluminium"... :)

Isn't 'tige' suggesting a specific cylindric form of the barrs?
Most of the time, even if we speak sometimes of "tiges à section carrée".
Silivap, the name (tige, baguette, barre, couvre-joint, tringle, etc) depends on the size of the items and what they are made for.

10 cm long, less then 2 cm large, not cylindric, just flat (3 mm?!) and made of steel i guess, but i'm not sure about that. How difficult you are! Each of those has 2 screws fastening it on a "petit cage". This sounds even more complicated! :D
