barrier island

Hi, again. I'd like to know if there is a concise translation for "barrier island" in Italian or if I have to describe or define it in an email to my family. The Wikipedia entry for barrier island does not have an Italian translation

and I don't know if a literal translation would make sense. Isola di barriera?? Probably not.

And, synonymous with "cordoni litoranei", there is "isole lineari". [Can't say I'm in love with either definition, but there you have it...]
