I don't understand this sentence in the paragraph:

Yet for all its guns and ghettos, America has a resurgent spirit of entrepreneurship that finds only pale mimics in other parts of the world.Its companies are out there alone on the economic frontier. Economic success encourages cultural dominance and not the other way around.

    The idea put forward is that US companies are pioneers prepared to go where others are not.
    I agree with shawnee's interpretation, and wish to clarify that this is not in any way about geography. "...to go where others are not." refers to the objectives and operations of the companies. It is probably a reference to innovation in products and perhaps business practices. More background and context would help to clarify that.
