Be successful

Hello everyone,

Does the phrase "to be successful" meaning "to succeed in getting or doing something" sound natural/correct in the examples I made below?

a. I tried to persuade all my classmates to do voluntary work on the holiday, but only 3 of them actually agreed to. I hope I'm more successful next time.
b. John, when you are at a bar and want to pick up a girl, don't start a conversation with "do you come here often?''. You won't be successful saying this kind of thing. It's gotten old.

Thank you in advance!
