    Hmm... I just use those words for someone who is hopeful or unhopeful but not after someone has done something to prove it.

    Cope Eg. "I've had a terrible year with my lawyer employees dying from diarrhea of the mouth, my wife running off with the milkman, my son running off to spend 50 years studying French, and me coming down with a case of the heebie jeebies, but let me tell you, I'm going to cope."
