I have just finished reading a wedding report on a British website.I have come across an invitee described as "best man".What does best man mean?I am sure he is one of those who are invited to that party.
A "best man" is the groom's second or assistant and plays an important role in the various ceremonies and festivities. Asides from helping the groom prepare, in traditional American and British weddings, he'll also:
assist the groom on the wedding day,
keep the wedding rings safe until needed during the ceremony,
act as a legal witness to the marriage, and
make a toast to the bride and groom at the reception.
