What does better of that mean?
 
  • The context isn't clear. Who is Verin?
    Verin is also an Aes Sedai. But she and Perrin [the he in this passage] had met before and travelled together. Unlike Alanna whom he had seen only once without even getting to know each other names.

    The rest of the passage "Even Verin had the better of that; most of the time she was just plain unreadable.Unnerving, on occasion, but at least he did not have to wonder if she was going to know how to fit his pieces back together."

    The idea may be "Even Verin was better at doing that," but it's still not very clear what "that" is.
