Birthday is coming

Hello everyone,

Is it natural/correct to use "birthday is coming" in place of "birthday is coming up", "birthday is coming up soon" or "birthday is getting close" in the examples that I created below?

a. My birthday is coming, and I really want to take some time off from work.
b. Sarah's birthday is coming. This year I'm going to give her a present.

Thank you in advance

Here in the northeast corner of the US, I hear both. 'My vacation is coming up and I'm going to Nova Scotia' and 'Oh no, Sarah's birthday is coming and I haven't bought her present.' To me 'coming' and'coming up' both mean the event will happen in the next couple of weeks or sooner.
