blend into local life?

Hi,

Does the expression "blend into" make sense in the following sentence?

"The immigrants blend well into the local people's life."

    Since people are part of life -- and the life of the community is understood here -- it might be better (and sound less creepy :)) to be more general:

    The immigrants blend well into local life.

    Just to make sure, "blend into" here makes sense? - as in meaning the similar as "
    assimilate into"?
