Is there a Japanese expression for "blessing in disguise"? As far as context goes, I'd just like to say "So-and-so was a blessing in disguise [for me]."

    I would be much much more comfortable answering if you provide more context and background for your enquiry because there is no literal Japanese translation available. It of course depends on what exactly "so-and-so" is in a sentence, but an idiomatic equivalent for "blessing in disguise" is;
    禍転じて福となる (used intransitively: For the time being it looks better suited for your demand.)
    禍転じて福となす (used transitively).

    I see. The Japanese expressions works more naturally with an inanimate subject, I think. A translation of "The encounter with so-and-so was a blessing in disguise" is:
