    Hello

I would like to know how to translate "bogus callers" into French. These are people who knock on your door pretending to be someone else, like an employee from a utilities company such as British Gas, etc, but in fact are criminals.

Thank you very much for your help.

    Des arnaqueurs?
    I don't think there's a single word for that...
We'd say "des faux facteurs", or "de faux employés du gaz", ou "des gens se faisant passer pour des policiers"...

Thanks for your suggestions, but I'm looking for a more general term, not something so specific.

    ce délit est défini comme
    entrée/intrusion/pénétration/introduction par ruse

pour décrire ce genre de malfaiteur, il faut recourir à la périphrase:
    "malfaiteur entrant/se présentant par ruse"

In Correct French, it's 'malfaiteurs à la fausse qualité'. I read it very frequently in the papers. Hub

Thank you. "Voleurs ou Malfaiteurs a la fausse qualite" sounds good.

or "personnes se presentant sous une fausse identite" could work as well.

    Cheers
