boost to consumer and rely less on customer.

Here is a part of article from Forbes.

"boost marketing to consumers and rely less heavily on corporate customers, a tricky expansion for any company."

What's the difference between consumer and corporate customer?

Please explain the meaning of that line to me.

Well, as I see it, if you are selling, say printer cartridges, you can sell direct to the public (consumers) or seek more 'bigger' purchasers, namely corporations/companies, which will buy large numbers of supplies, in bulk. Here they are proposing more focus on individual consumers.

A consumer is the woman who puts a loaf of bread into her shopping basket.

A corporate customer is a company that places an order for 10,000 loaves to distribute to hotels
