Bread and butter is /are our daily food.

Hello friends
Here, I think 'are' is correct. Because 'bread' and 'butter' are two different foods, but I know they are also singular so I am confused a bit.
Am I correct?

Thanks in advance.

Bread and butter, when considered as a unit or as a meal taken together, can use the singular "is."
But if you consider them as two separate items, you can use "are."

    It's really up to you.
