    We often use the imported word fiancée (although many people leave off the accent mark or put it in the wrong place)

    I would disagree with sdg if he means that "fiancee" is a synonym for "bride-to-be". I would say that a "bride-to-be" is getting married quite soon, maybe the wedding has already been planned, the dress ordered etc.

    She might have been engaged to be married for five years, say, and during that time I wouldn't have described her as a "bride-to-be".
