Hola:

Necesito encontrar una traducción para buffer en el siguiente contexto. No tiene nada que ver con la informática. Es un texto sobre cómo se planean los proyectos en una empresa y sobre cumplir plazos.

Porque buffer es como un colchón de seguridad, un tope, no?

    Yes, a buffer is literally a colchón de seguridad. What it means in this context is that the date agreed is actually one to two times more time than they need to complete the job in order to provide a 'safety margin' (buffer) in case it takes them longer than they expect to complete. In other words, they hope to finish before the due date so the client is very happy, rather than give a realistic date which they might not achieve, in which case the client could be very annoyed.
