What does "burst into" mean? Does it mean to enter?

Depay bursts into the penalty, looking to get round Pique down the outside.

    It is from a "live" text commentary of a football (soccer) match where someone has to type quickly to give a running description of the plays. It's inevitable that the odd word will go missing:)

    But yes, the word area was omitted....
